Nasal Surgery
- Bleeding is expected. You may have to change the gauze and tape dressing 15-20 times. The nurse will give you the gauze when you leave the hospital.
- You may also have splints in your nose which will be removed in the office about a week after surgery. You will not breathe well from your nose until these are removed.
- Excessive drainage is expected for a week.
- You must not blow, pick, or clean the inside of your nose for a week (until splints are removed).
- A prescription for pain medication will be given to you after surgery.
- The night after surgery you should keep your head elevated.
- A vaporizer or humidifier will help keep your throat from getting too dry the night after surgery.
- There should not be any strenuous physical exertion for two weeks.
- You may need to miss a week of school or work but you may return sooner if you feel able.
- Your ears may be stopped up.
- Nausea may be present after surgery. You may eat or drink what you want.
- Obtain an appointment for one week after surgery.
