Adenoidectomy
- Some bleeding from the nose or mouth can be expected. If it is excessive call the office number. If the doctor does not return your call quickly and the bleeding is quite heavy, take the patient to the Emergency Room.
- There may be some neck stiffness, headache, and/or sore throat after adenoidectomy. Generally Tylenol® should be sufficient for pain relief.
- The patient may eat anything they want but must at least drink plenty of liquids.
- There should not be any strenuous physical exertion for five to seven days.
- Generally, several days of school will be missed but the patient may return when they seem ready.
- The patient may have bad breath during the healing process.
- Low grade fever is not uncommon and generally indicates mild dehydration. This usually means the patient is not taking enough liquids. Notify the doctor if the temperature reaches 101° F.
- There may be a change in voice if the adenoids are excessively large. This generally clears in several weeks.
- Obtain an appointment for 2-3 weeks after surgery.
