Welcome to Tri-State Otolaryngology.

The Ears, Nose, Throat and related head and neck structure are highly integrated parts of the human body. Each is closely connected and very dependant on the other. For example, sinus disease and tumors of the upper throat can cause hearing loss; or a cancer of the lower throat or voice box can cause ear pain. In diagnosis and treatment of any ear, nose or throat disorder, “looking at the whole picture” must always be prime consideration. Because this close relationship between the ear, nose and throat is recognized, Residency training and Board Certification is in all five areas:

  • Facial Plastic Surgery
  • Head and Neck Surgery
  • Pediatric Otolaryngology

At Tri-State Otolaryngology, we pride ourselves on being more than “E.N.T.” or ear-nose-throat doctors. Rather, we are a highly qualified group of certified physicians and surgeons dedicated to totally integrated diagnosis and treatment. Our practice encompasses a wide variety of disorders. To the practice, we bring not only state of the art skills, diagnostics equipment, and treatment facilities, but a commitment to quality understanding and care into each patient we treat.

Accepted Insurance Plans

Because statements and billing costs have become so expensive and, in an effort to keep your medical costs down, please be prepared to pay for office visits at the time of service. Your secondary insurance will be billed for surgeries only; therefore, responsibility for payment is your obligation. Payments may be made by cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, or Discover. A charge of $10.00 will be made when personal checks are returned for insufficient funds. We will be happy to discuss fees with you and provide an estimate of proposed fees for any procedure in advance. Since the insurance industry is changing so rapidly, you should check your insurance directory to see if we are listed as participating physicians. We see patients by appointment only. In order to avoid a possible charge, please give at least 24 hours notice if you must cancel an appointment. Frequent rescheduling, same day cancellations, and not showing for appointments wreak havoc on the office and are unfair to other patients. We reserve the right to discontinue medical services if a patient breaks three appointments without prior notification. We try hard to see patients on time. However, emergencies and other problems can arise causing unpreventable delays. We thank you for your understanding. Routine appointments should be scheduled 1 to 2 months in advance. For a sick call or an acute problem, call the office as early as possible for scheduling a same day appointment. Only problems determined to be “emergencies” by our doctors will be seen the day of the phone call.

General Office Policies

General Office Policies Patients are encouraged to call with any questions they have on medical problems during our office hours, 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.  The clinical staff has been trained to answer many of your questions.  They will also relay information to your doctor, and your call will be returned at the earliest opportunity.  This may be after hours, so if you have an emergency, please tell the nurse.  Also, if possible, leave a daytime and evening telephone number. After office hours, telephone calls should be limited to those that you consider URGENT.  The doctor on call is available to assist in the management of “true” after hour emergencies.  We recognize that you can have an emergency situation arise, and we will do our best to respond to your problem promptly.  Non-emergent after hour calls could be charged a nominal fee.

If you are extremely ill and require immediate medical evaluation after office hours, please go to the nearest emergency room.  The emergency room physician will evaluate you and notify us immediately.

Do not contact us via e-mail with medical concerns or questions.  Please call our office to speak to a nurse for medical questions.

Drs. Stevens, Jung and Sheridan are members of the medical staff of:

  • Cabell Huntington Hospital
  • St. Mary’s Hospital
  • Three Gables Surgery Center

They cover these hospitals and their associates emergency rooms.


It is difficult to diagnose certain medical illnesses over the telephone. We prefer to see patients before prescribing medication. Prescriptions will not be prescribed over the phone except for certain occasions, when you have been seen recently. If you want a prescription called in to the pharmacy, please have the phone number ready before calling. Please call during office hours to get prescriptions filled and refilled.
